I am a photographic illustrator creating images using in-camera effects, collage and digital manipulation. My work involves the photographic creation of talismanic images - making patterns, summoning elemental emotions and iconic essences.
Some cultures believe that photography steals the soul, my work aims to respect the power of the image, make it tangible and create a space which illuminates and expresses the soul. Artists and writers who have influenced my work include Cindy Sherman, Susan Hiller, Marina Warner, Mike Figgis and Shirin Neshat.
Exploring gender and the psychosexual roles of women in society, working with stereotypes and archetypes. Glamour and fascination. Oppression and revelation. Portraits of women in a supernatural style.
I also works with film and video projections to create ritualised territories with film, light, veils and mirrors - a revelation of the hidden. A gateway between worlds.
